SBA SATURDAY MORNING FAMILY FUN RUNS

Due to the weather, no family fun run this morning.  Sorry for the late notice, but stay tuned for any future runs.  Thanks.

BREATHE DEEP NASHVILLE 5K

Hey everybody!  SBA has formed a team to participate in the Breathe Deep Nashville 5k on November 5, 2011 to support lung cancer research!  Please join us for a morning of fun and exercise that goes to support a great cause.  Our team is the SBA Bears and it is open to all of our SBA families, no matter how far extended.  Not only can you participate in the timed 5K, but walkers are also welcome.  This is a great event for families as children under 12 are free (but still must register).  You can get more information about the race and register here.

ING KIDS MARATHON

Talking about school teams, we have also formed a team for ING Kids Marathon on April 27, 2012.  Kids will run 25.2 miles on their own, or with the team on Family Fun Runs, until the day of the race.  On race day, the kids will finish the last mile on the actual course!  This is a really fun event, and parents are welcome to walk, jog or run with their kids if they like.  You can get more information about the race and register here.

IRISH PRIDE 5K AND 1 MILE FUN RUN

Father Ryan is hosting their 10th Annual Irish Pride 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run on November 12, 2011.  This looks to be a very fun event on and around the Father Ryan Campus.  The Fun Run takes place at Father Ryan's Giacosa Stadium.  The proceeds of the race benefit the Father Ryan Tuition Assistance Fund.  For those of you thinking about Father Ryan as a choice for high school or are just looking for a Fall race, this is a great opportunity to check out the campus and to get some exercise.  No teams for this race, but families can register as at a reduced rate.  You can get more information about the race and register here.

SPECIAL THANKS FROM COACH VALLEJO

I realize that I have said this before, but it bears repeating as it is so very true:  Thanks, thanks, thanks to all my coaches and volunteers!!!!  From my dedicated coaches to my parent volunteers during practice and for snacks at meets, your generous dedication of time and effort made the success of this program possible.  A most special thanks goes to Coach Dortch for her tireless contributions to this program in the past and this season.  It was her efforts that created the organizational detail that guided us throughout the season.  I cannot imagine having taken on this program without the groundwork that she had laid out or the contributions of my coaches and volunteers!

Thanks to the school and the administration for your patience, support and opportunity to continue to develop this program at SBA.  Particularly, I would like to recognize my teacher-coaches, Ms. Boyd, Ms. Crews, Ms. Mila and Ms. Negron.  Thank you for your guidance and time in furthering this program.

Last but not least, I would like to thank all my runners and their parents.  If not for your understanding and dedication, we would not have a program at all at SBA.  I thank you for allowing me the honor of working with you and I hope to see many of you succeed even further next year!

THANK YOU ALL!!!

CROSS COUNTRY UNIFORMS

If you have a generic school jersey, please return them at the season wrap-up party on Thursday or return them to the office afterwards.  The uniform box will be in the office for several days to accommodate this.  Thanks.

Father Ryan Distance Classic

Congratulations to all the runners who competed at the Father Ryan Classic!  We had a strong turnout with 11 runners and several that placed.  Chloe Serafin handily took 1st place among a strong field of 5th grade girls.  Also among that deep field of 5th grade girls, Delaney Herrmann finished 6th, Gisella Urciuoli finished 7th, and Sydney Baird finished 8th.  Will Brown finished in a close 4th place among the 6th grade boys, and Kathryn Brown finished in a strong 4th place among the 8th grade girls.  Our remaining runners, Caroline Johnson, Isha Upender, Joshua Braden, John Preston, and Owen Vallejo also turned in strong finishes in their respective races.  This was an amazing start to the season, and we are proud of everyone's great race!  Thanks for participating runners!
